From an idea to a successful touring production
11am - 1pm
A practical workshop for theatre-artists, writers and self-producers on how to bring your idea from inside your head to the stage, and beyond. We will practise the creative, practical and collaborative skills needed to bring your seed of an idea to fruition. Maybe you already have a script and don't know what do next, or maybe you just have an image or a concept for a show - maybe you have an idea but you're not even sure if it's theatre or not! This hands-on workshop will help you discover your options, and help you start practising the skills needed to make your creative vision a reality. Theatre is collaborative art form so there will be a strong focus on how to find, play with and trust other artists, collaborators and production teams during the next phase your work.
Emma O'Grady is an Inis Oírr-based theatre artist, writer, film-maker and production manager making work under the name 'Up Up Up'. There is a documentary aspect to all her work. She makes theatre & film inspired by true events, real lives & shared histories. Her first play “What Good is Looking Well When You’re Rotten on the Inside?” based on tapes recorded by her civil-servant grandfather one month before his death was produced to critical acclaim in 2017 and toured extensively. In 2020 she produced and directed 'Mad, Bad and Dangerous - a celebration of difficult women', a series of interviews between influential Irish women over 70. Emma has worked in production for many groups and artists including Macnas, Branar and THEATREclub. Emma is a co-founder of Apartheid-Free Arts and is committed to the cultural boycott of Israel.
2pm to 4pm
Heather Rose will lead this two-hour workshop where artists and early career producers will get an overview of producing a project such as a play or dance show, from the idea to the final evaluation.
The workshop will touch on budgeting, marketing, project management and more, followed by time for questions about participants’ own projects.
Suitable for artists working in theatre, dance, circus, etc.
The workshop will be led by creative producer Heather Rose of Rose Producing, who has over 20 years’ experience in the performing arts.
