Join us for a two-part workshop with visual artist Michael Gannon. We begin with an introduction to the cyanotype photographic process. The cyanotype process, a historical photographic technique dating back to 1842, utilises light-sensitive solutions to produce striking blue-hued images. During this introductory workshop participants will then learn to prepare their own photosensitive emulsion that reacts to ultraviolet light. Throughout this hands-on experience, attendees will gain insights not only into the practical aspects of cyanotype printing, but also its artistic possibilities. At the end of the day every attendee will have a number of finished cyanotype prints, and some photosensitive paper that you have prepared yourself to make some cyanotypes at home.

In our second workshop we will introduce you to the polaroid emulsion lifts.A Polaroid emulsion lift is a compelling photographic technique that allows artists and photographers to separate the emulsion layer of a Polaroid photograph from its substrate, enabling the creation of unique, translucent images on various surfaces. During an upcoming workshop, participants will explore this innovative process, which not only emphasises manipulation and creativity but also highlights the intricate chemistry involved in instant photography. This hands-on experience fosters an understanding of both material properties and artistic expression while encouraging experimentation with texture, colour layering, and composition. Ultimately, attendees will leave with practical skills and insights into integrating traditional photographic methods with contemporary art practices.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a packed lunch.
