Culture Night: Boheh Stone with Emily Bracken

Join us for a Culture Night ‘Design Charette’ led by Emily Bracken, ATU School of Creative Arts. Part-talk and part hands-on-workshop inspired by Mayo’s ancient Boheh Stone, which stands as a vital piece of our rich, pre-colonial cultural landscape. This famous monument contains beautiful carvings relating to the sun. Considered to be one of Ireland’s best collections of petroglyphs (prehistoric rock carvings), the Boheh contains over 250 motifs. It is believed to date back to around 3,800BC!

A ‘Design Charette’ brings people together to explore design options in a fun enjoyable way. Come along to learn more about Mayo’s prehistoric rock art, protecting our indigenous heritage, and let's imagine new design solutions to engage the public by incorporating local needs, culture, rituals and tradition.

About the host
Emily Bracken teaches Interior Design at ATU School of Creative Arts, Galway. Her perspective is heavily shaped by over 20 years managing complex, large-scale commercial and public infrastructure projects within multidisciplinary teams. As an NCIDQ and BIID registered interior designer, she has spent decades looking at how space can reflect community identity and culture—most notably during a formative decade delivering remote infrastructure alongside Indigenous communities in Canada. Her focus now is bringing those international lessons home to Irish design.
