Your Side of the Story: a Memoir Masterclass with Alice Kinsella

Have you ever wanted to share your story, but thought no one would be interested?

You’re not alone. But what truly makes a good memoir is not who you are or what your life has looked like, but how you tell your story.

Across two consecutive Saturdays, we will learn to loosen the restraints to access the right tools to tell our stories. We will look at samples of memoir and discuss how different writers utilize the form. There will be time to write, writing prompts, and an opportunity to share what you have written with your peers and receive feedback.

The first day will focus on finding inspiration and the craft of memoir. The second day will look at drafting your work and a writers workshop where participants will be invited to share their work and receive feedback from their peers and the tutor. Participants will come away with a new understanding of memoir and the story they want to tell.

The workshop is ideal for those interested in writing memoir, whether for publication or personal use. Some practice with creative writing is preferable to get the most out of the material but not strictly required.
