What does migration sound like? In MIGRANTES, it becomes a deeply moving musical journey.
Created by our player Mauro Sigura and pianist Andrea Manzoni, this extraordinary duo brings together the warm, ancient voice of the oud and the expressive range of the piano to tell a story without words.
The performance unfolds in three acts — The Dream, The Hope, and The Journey — guiding audiences through evocative soundscapes where jazz, Mediterranean, Arab-Ottoman traditions, classical music and global influences intertwine. Rather than focusing on migration as movement across borders, Migrantes explores it as an inner voyage — a movement of the soul.
Since premiering in October 2024, Migrantes has captivated audiences around the world, touring across Chile, Peru, Italy, Germany (including jazzahead!), France, Switzerland, Croatia, the UK, Greece (at the Syros Jazz Festival), China and Egypt, with further performances scheduled across Australia, Canada, China, Hungary and beyond in 2026.
Critics have praised the project’s emotional depth and musical richness:
“Sigura’s music is characterized by its ability to blend diverse musical traditions with contemporary sounds… bringing a unique depth to his compositions.” — Andrew Read, Jazz in Europe
“It is wonderful to hear these Mediterranean-styled melodies woven so deeply into a jazz fabric… The world is increasingly thirsty for music of such integrity.” — John Fenton, JazzLocal32.com
“I found myself listening intently to the nuances of the music and the spaces it created — and wanting to dance!” — Kathryn Shackleton, Watermill Jazz Club
With its intimate instrumentation and cinematic storytelling, MIGRANTES offers audiences an immersive listening experience — a concert that feels like travelling without moving.
