Irish traditional arts and culture have been lovingly passed down through generations, sustained by the vibrant custom of “night-visiting.”, “bothántaíocht,” “oícheanta airneáil,” or “Ball Nights” as it is commonly known in West Kerry. This cherished tradition brought neighbours together to share music, song, dance, and storytelling. Today, this rich legacy thrives in the Corca Dhuibhne Gaeltacht, where music, poetry, and art blend seamlessly to connect generations.
This new production, led by the celebrated West Kerry band Cuas, alongside the dynamic dancers of Seit Chorca Dhuibhne, poet Dairena Ní Chinnéide, and artist Domhnall Ó Bric, breathes fresh life into these traditions. Audiences across Ireland will experience the wild energy and vibrant culture of West Kerry, brought to the stage under the creative direction of Cuas and cultural ambassador and sean-nós dancer Edwina Guckian, and produced by Kyle Macaulay, former Head of Administration at the Irish Traditional Music Archive (ITMA).
In a 90-minute, multi-disciplinary performance, the show will feature energetic slides and polkas, timeless traditional songs that transcend centuries, and captivating waltzes that encourage audience participation. Art and poetry inspired by the five figures of Seit Chorca Dhuibhne will be seamlessly interwoven, creating a rich tapestry of storytelling through sight and sound.
