All the Men (We Ever Loved) are Dead or Dying Conor O'Grady

Friday 12 January - Saturday 24 February 2024

"All The Men (We Ever Loved) Are Dead or Dying," the solo exhibition by Visual Artist and Curator Conor O’Grady.

With a discerning gaze through the prism of a white, Irish, gay male perspectives, O'Grady presents, through his signature practices which include dialogue and anti-portraiture as mediums, a nuanced reflection on the facets of contemporary masculinity.

In this exhibition, O’Grady weaves together drawings, paintings, moving imagery, and sculptural elements to reposition narratives and challenge conventional representations of maleness. Each piece serves as a testament to the complexity of identity and transcending stereotypical depictions.

Inviting viewers into an intimate dialogue about the diverse lived experiences within the realm of contemporary Irish masculinity. Through unexpected materials and ordinarily unheard narratives, O'Grady delves into the broader concept of masculinity, unraveling stories that echo with authenticity, tenderness and alienation. The exhibition becomes a commentary on societal expectations, personal journeys, and the evolution of masculinity through a male gay lens.

As viewers engage with this compelling body of work, they are prompted to reflect on their own perceptions of masculinity. The exhibition emerges as an evocative tapestry, illustrating that within the rich diversity of maleness lies a spectrum of stories waiting to be told and embraced.

Through 'All the Men (We ever loved) Are Dead or Dying,' I wanted to explore the silent, tender and unseen spaces in which contemporary masculinity is played out. Aware of the statistical realities and their connotations, the exhibition addresses the absence of specific male perspectives in modern representation. Examining the intricate dance between danger, vulnerability, and the unspoken nuances of male identity. Shedding light on the void created by the omission of specific marginalised male experiences.
