A Night for John

John Mayock was a musician and visual artist from Mayo. As a young man he studied social studies and, later, fine art in Dublin. He lived and worked as a lecturer in fine art and visual art in Technological University Dublin for many years. He returned to Mayo in 2014 where he lived until his death in February 2024.

John had a deep love and connection with music across all genres. He grew up playing traditional and folk music with his family and continued to play throughout his life. He was a very fine wood carver and sculptor and his many students and work colleagues remember him as a skilled and intuitive teacher.

‘A Night for John’ is a concert that celebrates his love of music, art and poetry and his love for those close to him in his life. It also speaks to his kindness and the gifts he shared. The night will feature very special guest appearances by musicians, singers, poets and friends whose lives he touched while he was with us.
