We're Hiring! Community Relations Officer

Community Relations Officer - Linenhall Arts Centre

We are currently looking for a part-time Community Relations Officer with an interest in the arts for a fixed term contract in late 2021 and early 2022. This is a 6-month fixed-term contract to support two strategic development projects for the organisation.

Hours will vary week-to-week dependent on the requirements of the project co-ordinators. It will be at the discretion of the Community Relations Officer to communicate regularly with the project co-ordinators in order to manage their hours on a weekly basis. The overall fee for the project is €6,000.

About the project:

The Linenhall Arts Centre will deliver a new collaborative approach to strategic planning, co-designing a 5-year Strategic Plan and a 5-year Audience Development Strategy in collaboration with artists, audiences and community stakeholders.

We are seeking a candidate that has experience in engaging and working with a diverse variety of local groups, particularly people or groups who do not currently engage with the arts. A candidate with an interest in the arts is desirable. A good listener and communicator is essential.

The Community Relations Officer will:

a) research, identify and collate information on groups, networks and gatekeepers amongst Castlebar communities (and further afield)

b) forge new connections and facilitate communications between these groups and the Linenhall

c) provide administrative support to the Linenhall in relation to these sessions including organising and management of sessions, and other research and recording as appropriate

d) use initiative to support the project with ideas and suggestions as appropriate

e) be comfortable consulting with children to ensure they have a voice in informing Linenhall strategy

This is a hands-on role and involves overseeing many aspects of bridging new relationships between the Linenhall and groups in the locality. The Linenhall does not currently have the capacity to do this work and is outsourcing this role. The goal is to use the results of this project in the long-term to provide better services to everyone in the community. The project is funded by the Arts Council of Ireland.

Please see additional documentation for more insight into the project.

You will:

  • Have previous experience in a similar or comparable role
  • Be an excellent listener, personable and comfortable coordinating and communicating with people from a wide variety of areas
  • Have in-depth knowledge of the locality and good connections in the community
  • Be comfortable organising and managing sessions
  • Have excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Become familiar with the Arts Councils Equality, Human Rights and Diversity policy in advance of the start date
  • Be comfortable using computers and associated software

You will be joining a small close-knit team and will support and report directly to the Linenhall Director and work very closely with Arts Consultant, Heather Maitland as they oversee the project while working with the Linenhall team at various points for the duration of the contract.

Interviews to take place W/C Mon 27 Sept 2021 with an intended start date as soon as possible.

Please note this is a 6-month fixed term contract.

Please note the successful applicant will be required to undertake a Garda Vetting process.

Please email a cover letter and current CV to Bernadette Greenan at director@thelinenhall.com by Fri 24 Sept 2021 at 5pm.
