YOUNG PLAYWRIGHTS’ PROGRAMME 2019/20
Fighting Words, Mayo and the Linenhall Arts Centre, Castlebar are running a Young Playwrights’ Programme from 5 October 2019 to 9 April 2020. The programme comprises a series of workshops (approximately one per month) during which participants will work towards creating a 10 minute play, gaining lots of tips and guidance on the play writing process from Fighting Words mentors along the way. During the programme there will be opportunities for the participants to attend a number of theatre shows at the Linenhall Arts Centre. The programme will culminate with a professional theatre director and a number of professional actors delivering a rehearsed reading of each play on stage at the Linenhall for an invited audience.
We are now in search of enthusiastic young writers aged 16-18 (ideally transition year or 5th year students) to take part in the programme. Participation is free of charge (including theatre shows at the Linenhall).
Participants are required to take part in all workshops, and to attend for the rehearsal period during the Easter Holidays.
Participants will also have the option to avail of the opportunity of extra writing days during the Christmas holidays (2nd Jan) and Spring mid-term break (15th Feb). They are also encouraged to attend a number of theatre shows at the Linenhall Arts Centre (see below).

This is a unique opportunity to write a short play with support and guidance, and to work with theatre professionals in preparation for the staged readings.
