Traditional Music for the Mandolin Family
The Pick and Shuffle Mando Band will celebrate the mandolin family of instruments in the Linenhall Arts Centre, Castlebar, this Thursday 27th February.
A performance with a difference, in that the mandolin gets centre stage, with big sisters the mandola and mandocello on either side. Mandoliners and brothers Finbarr and Colm Naughton team up with Tony Campbell, accomplished musicians all three, who have played traditional music in many bands and settings all over the world.
Finbarr has long had the idea of using the mandolin family of instruments to explore the Irish traditional repertoire. This year he was fortunate to receive a Deis award from the Arts Council to put this show together. They selected tunes from the wealth of material already in their heads and hands but they also went further afield, exploring older collections and pieces for harp that they felt would particularly suit the mandolin family. Here's a taster of what's in store
On Thursday next we look forward to jigs and reels, waltzes, slip jigs, schottisches, and, I believe, a song or two. You can now book you tickets on-line at our website and there’s no booking fee, or you can call us on 094 9023733 to book directly, or simply call in or just turn up on the night! Main thing is don’t forget to join us for what promises to be a lovely evening of music with some seriously good musicians.
