Exciting Dance Workshop Opportunity for Children & Young People at the Linenhall
We’ve some exciting dance workshops for children and young people which start this Saturday (12th Jan 2019) at the Linenhall. They’ll be facilitated by Marianne Larose a fantastic professional dancer who has relocated from Canada to Mayo, and has developed her very own signature dance style that stands out for its attractive, youthful energy.
In 2012, Marianne joined [ZØGMA], a professional percussive Canadian dance company which explores limits of percussive dance, merging dance and music into powerful rhythmic works. [ZØGMA]’s form of percussive dance specifically traces its roots back to traditional Irish and French-Canadian dancing. Marianne has been performing and touring nationally and internationally with [ZØGMA] and participated in their production Sokalo Remix, a unique collaboration between the company and Irish dancers Edwina Guckian, Liam Scanlon, Caitlin Nic Gabhainn and Laoise Kelly. The show toured in Ireland (including the Linenhall), Quebec, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. Through this project, Marianne met amazing people and developed friendships that brought her back to Ireland in April 2018.
In the series of workshops at the Linenhall participants will learn the basics of a contemporary style of step-dancing, which blends sean-nós dancing and body percussion – starting with the feet, then gradually moving through the rest of the body, allowing it to become a full instrument.
Every individual has their own unique rhythm and their very own way of dancing and expressing themselves. Our bodies move to the rhythm of the environment that is surrounding us all. Movement and dance helps boost brain development, coordination, and cognitive abilities. Over four weeks participants will grow their dance skills in a fun and relaxed environment.
Pre-booking essential. Full details and booking here.
