Tada! An exhibition for children from the Kids’ Own archive

How much does a bull weigh? What’s the difference between a heron and a flamingo? How do you make friends at school? Why are children important? What does the rain taste of?

These are just some of the questions that sprang forth through discussions with children as part of projects developed by Kids’ Own, led by professional artists and writers. This exhibition is an exciting opportunity for Kids’ Own to present a space for children that showcases creative ideas, artwork and children’s voices from more than 24 years of collaborative art-based projects.

The exhibition comprises different themed spaces, focused around: play; people; place; and pondering. A large inspiration for the exhibition comes from Kids’ Own’s extensive library of books made by children, for children, which span a very wide range of themes, experiences and artistic techniques.

The exhibition is interactive and will inspire children to play, think, read, and share. It has been curated by Vanya Lambrecht Ward in collaboration with a panel of children and young people from across Ireland.

This is the Linenhall’s 21st annual visual art exhibition curated with young audiences in mind.

Vanya Lambrecht Ward has worked in the arts over the last two decades, from theatre and television, to visual art and architecture. She has worked with Kids' Own Publishing Partnership for the last 10 years, lectures in theatre design at IT Sligo and is currently Creative Engagement Resident Artist in The Dock. Her practice is centred around our built environment and combines photography, sculpture, painting and all things spatial.

Kids’ Own is Ireland’s only dedicated publisher of books by children. Through a range of local, national and international projects, they connect children with professional artists and publish the work that they create.
