VISUAL ART: Gallery Friday 17th May – Saturday 22nd June
Artist Holly Walsh presents an exhibition of recent paintings. Drawing inspiration from the Irish landscape, especially rural and secluded areas, Walsh cites Chinese ink paintings as a fundamental influence in exploring the more ephemeral qualities of landscapes and the portrayal of Nature. “Shifting light, wind and water all give a landscape its complexity and life. These transient elements contrast with the more solid structures such as earth and rock, but also compliment them. This duality is what fascinates me, and I find myself drawn to places where both elements interplay with one another.”
Holly Walsh graduated from the Crawford College of Art and Design in 2016. Based on her multi-prize-winning 4th Year Degree Show, she was awarded Cork Arts Society Student of the Year and solo exhibitions in the Lavit Gallery and the James Barry Exhibition Centre, C.I.T. She has recently undertaken art residencies at Cill Rialaig, Kerry and NES Artist Residency, Iceland.
