About Us - What We Do

Linenhall Policy

The Linenhall Arts Centre’s policy is to provide an arts service for the community by:

  • programming local, national and international arts events and activities
  • supporting those working in the arts who live in the region
  • providing opportunities for all in the community to participate in making art

Activities

The Linenhall Arts Centre has been providing an arts service to the people of Mayo for the last twenty years, including

Music

The Linenhall’s ongoing programme includes world music, traditional, blues, jazz, classical, country and much else in between. As one of Music Network’s first partners we have established a reputation for quality music in a friendly atmosphere.

Drama

The Linenhall programmes professional theatre, with both Irish and international companies regularly featuring. We also programme amateur companies with high quality production values and we are particularly keen to promote youth theatre.

Visual Arts

The Linenhall Gallery shows a range of contemporary art in a series of exhibitions throughout the year in our dedicated gallery space. The work ranges from that of younger emerging artists to those of international reputation. A quality full-colour invitation accompanies each exhibition and gallery talks and workshops are frequently programmed during its run.

Literature

Poetry readings, lectures, book launches, informal get-togethers - in fact anything to do with the written word - all are regularly accommodated and indeed celebrated at the Linenhall.

Film

The Linenhall Film Club runs through the autumn and spring seasons with fortnightly screenings. We screen the latest international releases, with a bias towards the art house end of the market. The Linenhall Film Club is a member of Access Cinema. We currently project in digital format and have recently acquired a new screen that greatly enhances viewing quality.

Festivals

The Linenhall hosts RoolaBoola, one of Ireland’s finest children’s arts festivals, each October for the week running into the Bank Holiday week-end. We progamme the best children’s theatre companies doing the best shows and also schedule a plethora of arts workshops in a variety of art forms, facilitating children to explore their own creativity.

Participatory Arts

You will note from the Linenhall policy our commitment to providing all in our community with opportunities to make art. To that end we run an extensive workshop programme doing our best to provide opportunities for meaningful engagement with the creative process right through the year.
